The Pilgrim returns

I'm back now from my beautiful pilgrimage with feelings of utmost joy and a just a tinge of sadness. The intense joy of actually being in the holy places surrounded by all that beauty, both spiritual and physical, and the sadness of having to leave them.

Right now though, I'm still trying to sort out all the photographs I took while I was there. I'll share some more when I can but just for a taste here are three, one of the Shrine of Báha'u'lláh and two of the Shrine of the Báb.

Bahá'u'lláh: A Statement by the Bahá’í International Community

Tomorrow I'm taking the big silver bird to Tel Aviv, Israel as I'm going on pilgrimage to the Baha'i Holy places in Haifa and Akka. As you can imagine, I'm very excited and can hardly wait.

I'll be away for about 15 days so won't be posting anything during that time but I hope to be able to share some photos of my pilgrimage when I get back.

In the mean time if you'd like to learn something about the life and contributions of Bahá'u'lláh, you may read the Bahá'í International Community's Statement on Bahá'u'lláh

Prepared at the request of the Universal House of Justice, this statement offers a perspective on the feeling of confidence with which Bahá’ís the world over contemplate the future of our planet and our race.

Summer School in Natal - weaving the fabric of the New World Order

I've just come back from our Summer school in Natal. Although there were two schools held in South Africa this year I chose to go to the one in Natal as I've been going there for a number of years and I like the atmosphere and surroundings of the place. It was so good to get together with people I've not seen for a long while and meet and make friends with some new faces.

There were about 110 people there, mostly from the local areas but some did come down from as far away as Johannesburg, Cape Town and Polokwane. We even had visitors from Botswana, Zimbabwe and, wait for it, Japan!!

This year the Summer school was dedicated to the memory of Hope Nomvete a local believer who had passed on this year, a real hero of the Faith.

Classes for children, junior youth, youth and adults kept the spirt high all through the five days we were there and there was lots of participation in various arts sessions.

One weaving project brought all 100+ participants together. Reflecting on the theme of weaving the fabric of the New World Order, we formed pairs or small groups and using looms made of styrofoam and brightly coloured materials we helped each other weave fabric squares.

The finished squares were then sewn together to form a very colourful quilt to represent each person playing their part in weaving the fabric of the New World Order.

On the final evening the quilt was presented to the three members of the National Spiritual Assembly present as the participant's gift to our National Spiritual Assembly. Hopefully if you visit the national centre soon you will see the quilt hanging there.

The photos above show most of the participants who travelled to the Summer school waiting for the official phot to be taken, two friends busy weaving one of the fabric squares for the quilt and some of the squares ready to be sewn into the finished project.

This was a great Summer school and I can hardly wait for the next one in 2007.
